    Our Story

    About Us

Established in 1844, Prospect Baptist Church is one of the oldest congregations in the Niangua area — and we're still going strong.

    Our Mission

We exist to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ — welcoming every person into a transforming relationship with Him, growing together in faith, and serving our community with the love of the Gospel.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

    Matthew 28:19

    Our Story

    Nearly 200 Years of Faith

    1. 1844

      The Church is Founded

Prospect Baptist Church is established by a small group of faithful settlers in the Niangua area of Missouri — one of the earliest Baptist congregations in Webster County.

    2. Late 1800s

      A Growing Congregation

Through the post-Civil War era, the church grows as families put down roots in the Missouri Ozarks. The congregation builds a permanent meeting house and begins a tradition of community service.

    3. Early 1900s

      Strengthening the Community

Prospect Baptist becomes a cornerstone of community life in Niangua, hosting revivals, providing pastoral care, and establishing Sunday School for children and adults.

    4. Mid-1900s

      Decades of Faithful Ministry

Through the Great Depression, World War II, and the post-war era, the congregation perseveres in faith, caring for neighbors and welcoming generations of new families.

    5. 2000s

      Renewed Vision

The church enters a new season of growth, refreshing facilities and programs while holding fast to the historic Baptist convictions that have defined Prospect for over 150 years.

    6. Today

      Nearly Two Centuries Strong

Prospect Baptist Church continues to be a beacon of hope and belonging in Niangua. We carry forward the legacy of those who came before us, welcoming all to know Jesus Christ.

    What We Believe

    Our Statement of Faith

Prospect Baptist Church holds to the historic Baptist confessional tradition, grounded in the authority of God’s Word.

    • The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God — the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice.

    • Salvation by Grace

We believe that salvation is a free gift of God received through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by works of human merit.

    • Believer's Baptism

We believe that baptism by immersion follows a personal profession of faith and publicly declares the believer's death to sin and new life in Christ.

    • The Lord's Supper

We observe Communion as a memorial, proclaiming the Lord's death until He comes again.

    • Congregational Governance

We believe each local church is self-governing under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of Scripture, led by prayerful consensus of its members.

    • The Priesthood of All Believers

We believe every believer has direct access to God through Jesus Christ and is called to live out their faith in service to others.

    • The Return of Christ

We believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ and the resurrection of both the saved and the lost.
